I co-developed pretotyping with serial entrepreneur and ex-Googler Alberto Savoia, to help innovators everywhere from investing too much money and energy developing and refining beautiful products and businesses for which there is no demand.
Ideas are just abstractions, until tested. Innovators have wasted years of effort and millions of dollars developing and perfecting products that nobody wanted. Equally, many crazy-sounding ideas never make it to market because early opinion dissuades further exploration. Pretotyping is an approach to early-stage value-proposition testing, in which usage data from early adopters builds confidence that real demand exists for the idea.
We believe that this approach can dramatically multiply success for companies of all types, by enabling rapid, cheap testing of the critical “do they want it?” question right upfront. With pretotyping, startups can seek investment with more confidence; established companies can explore many more disruptive concepts per $ and unit of time.
